SUEZ re-use praised by Environment Secretary

SUEZ recycling and recovery UK’s expertise in Re-use was yesterday praised by Secretary of State for the Environment Steve Reed MP who said that our work undertaken with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority in giving “hundreds of tonnes of pre-loved items like furniture, bikes and toys a brand new lease of life” was a an example of “British businesses showing us what’s possible” to deliver a circular economy.

Responding, SUEZ CEO John Scanlon said: “It’s a genuinely proud moment for SUEZ to see our work with GMCA used as an exemplar by the environment secretary in his speech at the Dock Shed yesterday. Together with R4GM we have created the UK’s most successful reuse operation and have proven that pre-loved can be re-loved. This mindset is absolutely fundamental to establishing a circular economy and ending that throwaway mentality that Mr Reed has highlighted.

“The waste industry is the safety net for the circular economy and by diverting goods away from disposal we are preserving natural resources and opening up a whole new economy where extending the life cycle of products will not only reduce our carbon impact but breed new skills and a better deal for consumers. It is exciting to see how complementary policies are now joining up across Government departments – especially Defra and DESNZ - and we are very much looking forward to working with the circular economy task force and the net zero council to deliver their combined objectives.”
