SUEZ reports on its role in the ‘resource revolution’
I am pleased to report that we have made significant progress towards our vision ‘to live in a society where there is no more waste’ over the past two years.
Throughout 2014 and 2015 we saw profound changes in many aspects of our business, including our name.
In the summer of 2015, our company embraced a new name, SUEZ. All companies in the wider SUEZ group came together under one brand. This reflects our group commitment to providing global solutions for the coming ‘resource revolution’, making best use of the planet’s finite resources.
Our sustained investment in infrastructure is expanding our capacity to recover value from our customers’ waste. Throughout 2014-15, we invested more than £177 million in the development of new facilities. Thanks to unprecedented levels of investment in previous years, we brought a series of new facilities on stream. These include two new energy-from-waste (EfW) facilities and manufacturing capacity for alternative fuels.
2015 saw our combined electricity output exceed one million megawatt hours for the first time, and we set new records for the amount of waste handled and the proportion that was put to good use.
Of course, all these and other achievements would not be possible without the commitment and expertise of our people. The energy and engagement of our employees is inspirational. Their efforts on behalf of our charity partner — Macmillan Cancer Support — exceeded high expectations. Our trans-Britain cycle relay in 2014 and a host of other activities raised £120,000 for this worthy cause by the end of 2015.
