SUEZ hosts local businesses at a networking event in Severnside Energy Recovery Centre
We recently hosted dozens of local businesses from across Bristol at a networking breakfast, organised by SevernNet.
During the event, held at our Severnside Energy Recovery Centre, our team presented a range of topics from the waste hierarchy to carbon capture, all to show how business owners can enhance their sustainability.
The first session introduced the principles of the circular economy and its focus on keeping materials in use for as long as possible. Attendees learned about the role the waste hierarchy plays in the circular economy and how businesses can apply the hierarchy to improve their environmental performance.
The following sessions explored energy-from-waste and materials recycling facilities. Our team outlined what happens to recycling and waste after it’s collected from local businesses and how the facilities sustainably process the materials. Delving further into lowering carbon emissions, our team shared the latest innovations in the waste industry, including carbon capture and storage.
The final session guided business owners on navigating the fast-approaching Simpler Recycling legislation, which will impact how businesses in England manage their waste. The new rules are designed to simplify and standardise what can be recycled in the workplace and at home, with the aim of increasing overall recycling rates.
Drawing the morning to a close, SevernNet showcased local projects which businesses could participate in to support the circular economy.
Demonstrating waste prevention in action, we ensured that our event generated zero food waste, as all surplus catering was donated to the Bristol North-West Foodbank Social Justice Hub.
The event not only gave local business owners the opportunity to network with like-minded peers, but also highlighted the integral role businesses play in supporting the circular economy.
We’d like to give a huge thanks to everyone who attended and hope to see you at another event soon!
