Explore recycling and recovery in Kirklees

• Residents across Kirklees are invited to come and explore the borough’s recycling and recovery facilities in Huddersfield town centre.

   

  SUEZ recycling and recovery UK – who operate the materials recycling facility and energy-from-waste facility in Huddersfield on behalf of Kirklees Council – is opening the doors to the facilities on Saturday 21 September 2019 to coincide with both Recycling Week and Heritage Open Days.

   

  Members of the public are invited to book on to an hour-long tour where they will see how recyclable material is processed, separated and baled ready for re-use, and how non-recyclable material is put to good use as an alternative to fossil fuels creating enough electricity to power over 15,000 homes.

   

  Anna Bell, SUEZ’s Regional Manager, said: “This is the first time we have opened up our doors to the public so that residents can come in and see what happens to their recyclable and non-recyclable waste. We’re really looking forward to the event and can’t wait to show off how we are putting waste to good use.”

   

  Cllr Rob Walker, Cabinet Member for Culture and Environment, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to see the enormous scale of the operation in Kirklees and how much work goes in to ensuring we recycle as much as we possibly can. “We are committed to improving recycling rates in Kirklees and are working hard with SUEZ to do this. We all have a part to play and visiting these facilities yourself will give you a great understanding of the importance of recycling and how seriously we take it.”
