SUEZ organises canal clean up in Huddersfield – Volunteers needed
-
SUEZ recycling and recovery UK is organising a community clean-up along the Huddersfield Broad Canal on Sunday 20 October 2019, from 10am.
SUEZ – which operates a materials recycling facility and energy-from-waste facility in Huddersfield – are asking local residents and community groups to come down and help volunteers from the company clean up the towpaths along the canal.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the SUEZ materials recycling facility office on Diamond Street, Huddersfield (HD1 6BZ) for 10am on Sunday 20 October 2019.
The clean-up is part of the global #SUEZ4Ocean campaign which aims to reduce the amount of litter and waste that ends up in the sea.
Mark Ryan, the Plant Manager of SUEZ’s energy-from-waste facility in Kirklees, said: “We’re really glad that we’re able to give something back to the community. Much of the litter along the canal towpath could easily end up polluting our rivers, oceans and beaches, so it really is good for us all to be playing our part in protecting the environment.”
Waste material collected from the canal will be taken to SUEZ’s recycling and recovery facilities in Huddersfield where it will either be recycled or put to good use as a valuable resource at the energy-from-waste facility.
