SUEZ recycling and recovery UK appoints new External Affairs Director

Dr Adam Read, will take on the role at SUEZ from September this year, succeeding Dr Gev Eduljee.

Dr Read, already a prominent voice within the recycling and waste management sector and a former visiting Professor of Waste Management at Northampton University from 2002 to 2009, is currently Practice Director for Waste Management and Resource Efficiency, and part of the Energy and Environment Management team at consultancy, Ricardo.

Dr Eduljee, who will retire in October, has been employed by SUEZ since 2001, originally as Environment and Technical Director, before becoming External Affairs Director in 2008. Dr Eduljee also served on the Board of the SITA Trust (now SUEZ Communities Trust) between 2001 and 2007, and prior to working at SUEZ, worked in hazardous waste treatment and environmental consulting.

As Director of External Affairs, Dr Eduljee has been instrumental in coordinating SUEZ’s public policy work, its engagement with policy-makers and its industry thought-leadership, while also serving as expert counsel on legislative, technical and political issues to both the business and its customers.

Dr Read will assume the responsibilities of the role from September 2017.

Gev is a well-respected and immensely knowledgeable stalwart of our industry and has been an excellent ambassador both for the sector and SUEZ. We wish him all the best in his retirement.”

Dr Adam Read said: “I am really excited about the opportunity to join SUEZ, and work closely with the leadership team on the future positioning of the business in the UK market. SUEZ has been one of the leading waste management companies during the 20 years or so I have worked in the sector, and I am keen to get involved with all aspects of the business come September.

The External Affairs Director role is one I have always coveted – being externally focused, market facing, and drawing on my academic and consultancy training, to engage in debates and help develop solutions. But they don’t come round often, so I jumped at the chance to discuss the role with David.

I am sad to be leaving behind many close friends and colleagues after a busy nine years at Ricardo, but the opportunity to work with David and his leadership team was just too good to turn down. I think the sector is changing, and at a speed faster than ever before, so I look forward to helping steer SUEZ through these changes; supporting the company’s clients; and helping to shape the sector as much as possible”.

Dr Gev Eduljee said: “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to represent SUEZ and to work alongside colleagues in other waste management companies, trade associations, committees and advisory boards, to ensure that the true worth of our sector is appreciated, and nurtured, by government.”
