Impact report highlights life-changing successes of Harlequins Foundation and SUEZ employability programme

The Harlequins Foundation in partnership with SUEZ has released a ground-breaking impact report celebrating the achievements of their collaborative employability programme over the past two years.

Designed to provide essential skills and work opportunities for young people aged 16 to 24 who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET), the programme has already created life-changing outcomes for over 40 participants.

The Harlequins Foundation and SUEZ partnership was established to offer HITZ students a unique and practical approach to work experience. Over the course of two weeks, participants rotate across various SUEZ sites, gaining invaluable hands-on experience while learning about the diverse roles available in the industry. Crucially, each participant is guaranteed an interview at the end of their rotation, with opportunities for both part-time and full-time employment not only at SUEZ but also at other organisations.

Key statistics from 2022-2024

  • 44 participants engaged
  • 66% securing employment upon completion of the programme in Year One
  • 71% securing employment upon completion of the programme in Year Two
  • 23% gained a confidence boost after the programme in Year One
  • 50% felt an increase in confidence or feelings of usefulness after Year Two
  • Over £400,000 in social value has been generated in total across both years

As the employability programme moves into its next phase with the new contract extension into June 2025, both the Harlequins Foundation and SUEZ are excited to expand its reach and help more young people unlock their potential, alongside long-term unemployed individuals and care leavers.

Jack Barber, Partnership and Community Engagement Manager at SUEZ said: "We are incredibly proud to have played a role in such an impactful initiative. The employability programme embodies our commitment to creating lasting, positive change in the communities we serve as part of our triple bottom line approach. Seeing young people thrive, gain confidence, and secure employment is the most rewarding outcome we could hope for. We’re excited to continue building on this success, reaching more individuals and delivering even greater social value in the years to come."

George Green, Education & Employability Manager at the Harlequins Foundation said: “This report highlights just some of amazing work we have been able to deliver in partnership with SUEZ over the last couple of years. The partnership is a great opportunity to inspire young, NEET individuals into not just a job, but a potential career. The guaranteed job interview at the end of the programme provides a great incentive for our learners to join a company who are passionate about developing their staff and promoting from within.”
