Bag a bargain and help the planet: North Tyneside's first pop-up reuse shop
This exciting new initiative is being organised by SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, which operates waste facilities including the household recycling centre on behalf of North Tyneside Council. SUEZ is a champion of reuse, with a network of reuse shops across the country that help divert valuable items from going to waste. These shops sell quality goods donated by residents, breathing new life into items that might otherwise end up going to waste, all whilst offering cost-conscious shoppers a chance to find hidden treasures.
Hannah Fleming, Partnership and Social Value Coordinator at SUEZ, shared her excitement about the launch: “We’re thrilled to bring North Tyneside its very first pop-up reuse shop. Following the success of previous events elsewhere, we can’t wait to see the community come together to support sustainable shopping. From sports equipment to toys and furniture, there will be something for everyone. Plus, all proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Support, making this a truly meaningful event. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone next week!”
Paul Nelson, Head of Environmental Sustainability at North Tyneside Council, encouraged residents to get involved: “It’s fantastic to see this concept coming to North Tyneside for the first time. Reusing items not only saves residents money but also plays a huge role in reducing waste and protecting the environment. I’m excited to see local people get behind this brilliant initiative.”
North Tyneside's debut pop-up reuse shop will be held in the on-site office at the transfer station on Wallsend Road, North Shields, NE29 7SH, on Saturday, 26 October, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Free parking is available for visitors arriving by car.
Residents can attend the pop-up reuse shop without an appointment but if they intend to visit the HWRC they will still require a booking.
