Sustainable procurement at SUEZ

Sustainable procurement is a key part of SUEZ’s triple bottom line strategy. This means that we consider people and planet, alongside profit in all our procurement decisions.

To demonstrate our commitment to sustainable procurement, we updated our Sustainable Procurement Policy earlier this year so it aligns with our triple bottom line and the SUEZ Group Sustainable Development Roadmap. The policy is sent to all new suppliers as part of our onboarding process. We also have a Supplier Code of Conduct that we ask all our suppliers to commit to; this sets out the minimum standards we expect of SUEZ suppliers.

Over the last few years, we have worked hard to ensure sustainability is fully incorporated into our procurement processes, onboarding, tenders and supplier relationship management (SRM).

For the past three years, our annual supplier awards have helped us to recognise and reward the suppliers that are helping us to achieve our sustainability goals. We will soon be asking SUEZ employees to submit their nominations for the 2024 supplier awards, so if you think your company should be put forward, speak to your SUEZ contacts.

We have outlined our progress and our commitment to sustainable procurement in our new Sustainable Procurement Report. Key facts include: Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) account for:

  • 57% of our spend (£406million)
  • 51% of suppliers invited to tender
  • 77% of contracts
  • 20 of the 29 supplier award winners

Spend with voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSEs) was £1.2million

We completed 246 hours of sustainability training with the Supply Chain Sustainability School.
